Traditional Cuban music- including Son, Bolero, Cha Cha Cha as well as Salsa and Mambo rhythms

In recent years Cuban music became more and more popular not only due to Ry Cooder's "Buena Vista Social Club", but also because of the pleasant and exciting rhythms of this fascinating country.

The top class band "El Clan Cubano" plays not only traditional songs but also modern style Cuban music like Salsa and Mambo. The musicians create enthusiasm among the audience with the timbre and tone color of the music, deriving from their emotion, devotion and spontaneity and thereby convey a whiff of the Caribbean wherever they are heard.

Lineup:

  • Vicente Izquierdo (Cuba): Lead Vocals

    grew up in Havana. He gathered international experience as vocalist of various traditional Cuban bands like La Banda Meteoro, Atache Habana and la Orquesta de Pacho Alonso. Being lead vocalist of Habana Son Club for 5 years, he now represents the core of Clan Cubano.

  • Yoelvy Torres Montano (Cuba): Piano

    born in Pinar del Rio. Studies piano at the Escuela Vocacional de Arte and later at the conservatory in Havana. Expericences as piano player with Azúcar Negra und Tony Cortez.

  • Norberto Vladimir Fuentes (Cuba): Flute

    studied flute at the Esteban Salas conservatory. He is a talented piano player and an exceptional flute virtuoso. In Austria he composes and arranges for various projects and impresses with his distinctive solos.

  • Eldis La Rosa Monier (Cuba): Timbales

    studied saxophone in Santiago de Cuba and arrangement in Havana, where he composed for the only classical Cuban saxophone quartette. Being a very versatile musician, he plays Cuban folklore, salsa and Latin jazz not only with the sax but also with other instruments like the flute, percussion and the piano. His own project: Eldis la Rosa Group.

  • Roberto Calis (Cuba): Bass

    born in Cueto (Holguin) the home town of Compay Segundo, he comes from the home of the Son Montuno and Guaracha melodies. Since his early childhood, he was influenced by the traditional music of Cuba and subsequently included different modern styles in his repertoire. Performances at the "Teatro Nacional de Cuba" as well as at national and international festivals, among others.

  • Nelson Williams (Cuba): Band Leader, Congas

    completed his degree in trombone at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana prior to his teaching activity as a professor at the conservatory.

    His work as art director of the Afrocuban project Salpicado en Negro took him to Austria for the first time in 1993. In 1994 he came to Vienna with the Cuban trombone quartette "Equale".

    Since 1996 he lives in Vienna as independent musician. Performances with: Alegre Correa, Doretta Carter, Son Rumberos, Dos Por Uno, Karl Ratzer, Tschiritsch´s Uhrwerk, SOULWhat?, Trinity, Waterloo & Robinson, Maximo Lieder, MAALO, a.s.o.

    Concerts in Austria: Radio Kulturhaus, Burgtheater ("Kasino"/Peter Turrini), Konzerthaus, Lifeball, Donauinselfest, Etablissement Ronacher, Porgy & Bess, Birdland, Sun Splash Wiesen, and much more. Own project: El Clan Cubano and Chocomenta.
